Building Mural
Photograph: Many buildings in Los Angeles have murals painted on the sides. There’s a variety of subject matter, but invariably they’re very colorful. This particular mural was on the side of a shop that faced Sunset Blvd.

Casbah Cafe in Los Angeles
Photograph: Here I was sitting at one of the outdoor tables at the Casbah Cafe on Sunset Blvd. My iced coffee was good, if a little strong. Iced drinks are all the rage in Los Angeles given the climate. A hot new variation on the iced coffee is the boba drink. Boba are these large tapioca balls that the baristas drop into the bottom of your iced coffee or iced tea. They’re really tasty. You just suck the balls up in the really wide straw. Boba is also known as bubble tea.

Chris at the La Brea Tar Pits
Photograph: Here is Chris standing at the edge of one of the La Brea tar pits. The tar pits were interesting to see, but they give off a strong, oily odor. Nearby, we went and saw some art from the reign of Ghengis Khan at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).

Warner Bros. Studio Tour
Photograph: One day we went on a studio tour at Warner Bros. studios. We had a fun time looking at the sets of Friends, ER, and the West Wing among others. They also have several areas that are built up like city blocks – some urban and some more like a small town. This is one of the fake houses in the street sets.

Venice boardwalk
Photograph: Here’s a look at the Venice Beach boardwalk. It’s famous for the performers and the rollerblading hotties and Muscle Beach. The throng of people at the far left of the photo were watching a street performer who was performing stunts like walking on broken glass.

Painted Cave Road

The beach at Grover Beach
Photograph: The beach at Grover Beach was very nice. It’s one of the few spots in California where you can drive on the beach. It’s also a stretch of beach known for nighttime bonfires. Grover Beach is along the Central Coast. The air was much cooler than in Los Angeles.

Sea gulls
Photograph: Some of the local wildlife at Grover Beach. The birds were focusing on a woman and young girl who decided the birds needed some snacks and were feeding them McDonald’s french fries. You’ll note the one-legged bird on the right side of the photo. The girl had taken pity on this bird and was feeding it most of her fries.

This is a collection of Daniel Stout's photography. There is essentially one distinction to make – the Yashica-Mat gallery and everything else. The Yashica-Mat photos I took in the 1990s with a medium format Yashica-Mat LM. All other photos were taken digitally from 2003 to the present.
